Here's my Secret to Getting Happy Fast!!

Imagine this... you walk in your front door and you notice that school bags are thrown onto the floor, your foyer rug is crooked and needs replacing, there's nothing on the walls in front of you to inspire or welcome you home.  You continue on past your living room and you notice the pillows on the couch have seen better days, there is "stuff" strewn all over the coffee table and you are reminded that you need to spend a few days, if not weeks de-cluttering.  You continue on into the kitchen where dishes are left to fossilize on the counter and sink, the milk has been left out and you have to clean up before you can even think of getting dinner started.

How do you feel?

Sit with that for a moment.

imagine this....

you walk in your front door and you notice that the school bags are left on the floor, next to them, is a neat, bright rug, you look up and there is a beautiful art print on the wall listing your family rules *it makes you smile*.  You continue on past your living room, your bold pillows make you sigh and the inspiring photography books and gardening magazines remind you that you'll be relaxing and enjoying those soon enough.  You continue on into the kitchen, alas, fossilized dishes remain on the counter, but as you flip on the light switch in the kitchen, that orb light fixture that you just had to have illuminates the kitchen and inspires you to cook up something healthy and nourishing - just as soon as you pour yourself a glass of white and tidy up the kitchen.

Which one is closest to how you feel when you arrive home?

Do you even notice how you feel when you walk into your home, a room, your space?!  Or do you not look for fear of all that you want to change?!

Here's my secret to getting happy fast!

I've been known to change and re-arrange furniture ... a lot.

It makes me happy when I've swapped a table runner, or cushion covers, or even moved the couches around.

It instantly shifts energy, I feel like I'm in a fresh environment and it inspires me to de-clutter a little bit.  I'm of the mindset that your environment affects your mood, your productivity and your happiness level - being happy is at the top of my list!

It doesn't have to mean a huge renovation, or a time consuming project, simple touches are where the bang for your buck is.

My biggest secret to getting happy fast is to frame a piece of art and change it up every now and then.  My mood changes, my inspiration changes, and so does my art work.

Here are a few examples of some ways that I use art in my own home.

Photography art{Our own photos from Paris which we took on a recent trip that we cropped and framed.  It reminds us of our great adventure together.}

Kitchen art display{This is my kitchen shelf that gets switched up the most!  These are all my pieces and they remind me to be creative everyday.  I like the pop of colour in a neutral space too}

Kid's Room Art{I've installed a few floating picture rails in my daughter's room where she can place knick knacks and her most recent creations!}

Living Room Art{Using a piece of furniture like this antique desk that I refinished and painted black, adds interest to a corner in our living room.  Place a few great pieces on it and around it and it makes for a great stage to re-decorate as often as you like! It even doubles as a bar when we are entertaining!}

For more art ideas, visit the art shop and have a poke around.

What do you do to change up your space?  Do you have any tips to share?  I'd love to hear from you.

P.S. {If you think this post will help a friend make a few tweaks to their space and inspire them too, please share it!}

An Affirmation to help with Productivity and Organization

This week's affirmation is inspired by my own needs at the moment.  It's been a little chaotic to stay the least, but I do see a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Here's an affirmation to help with Productivity and Organization

productive and organized affirmationIf you've been a follower of l.i.d. for a while now, you know how much I love to use affirmations and how much they've helped me shift specific areas of my life.   This affirmation is a new one for me and one that I hope you'll do with me over the next few weeks.

productive and organized affirmation"It is easy for me to be Productive and Organized!"  Even when I have a million things on my to-do list and don't know where to start.

When you are feeling overwhelmed, simply repeat this mantra by taking a deep breath in, letting it all the anxious breath & energy go.  Do this a few times, as often as you need and you will find that you will easily sort through your to-dos therefore becoming more productive and better organized in no time.

Here's an example of how I created a better work space in my studio after beginning to use this mantra.

organzied and declutter studio spaceI needed a clean, organized area to cut my art prints, store my paper, tools, etc. By adding in a few storage solutions, a dedicated spot for cutting and housing tools nearby, I now spend less time looking for things and clearing space to work on, and more time getting things done and crossing off my to-do list!

You know the drill, download the PDF, print a copy, save it on your phone, or use it however you chose, to remind yourself to repeat, feel, and take action to be more productive and creative!

If you're not familiar with how to use these affirmations or what they are all about, click here to learn more.

Sharing is cool here!! Let me know what you need to be organized with and how you want to be more productive, I'd love to hear about it!

P.S. Before you go! l.i.d. has moved email services in order to improve our communication with you! If you've received a message from us to confirm your email address, please do so that you don't miss any updates and goodies from us!

Printing on Fabric - Who knew it would be so easy?!!

For months I've had a DIY written on a sticky note that I wanted to try!

I finally did...

Printing on Fabric - Who knew it would be so easy!!

I've agonized over what method to try, which image to use, what type of fabric to print on...  I've scoured Pinterest and have looked at a ton of sites, researching the best techniques to use to print on fabric.  Finally - today, I printed on fabric!!

I used a cotton, unbleached fabric that I bought in the craft section of Wal-mart {who knew!?} and I used a portion of an image that I drew the other day.

I am very excited to share with you this easy technique that works like a charm and perfectly on my first go!  Amazing right?!!

Here's what you'll need to start.

fabric art supplies

Start by ironing the fabric as best as possible.  {Perhaps washing it first might help with the fold lines that are always a challenge to iron out.}  Then cut the fabric to whatever size your choose.  I cut mine to 8 X 10 as I knew I would frame it in a size at least 8 X 10 or smaller.

Next spray the printer paper with the adhesive {outdoors to be safe} to coat the sheet with a very light coat of the adhesive.  Let it set for a few minutes before smoothing the fabric onto it.  The printer paper helps to support the fabric during printing and makes feeding it into the printer easy.  Yup! I printed using my ink jet directly onto the fabric.

Lastly chose an image that you love.  I chose one of my own that I had played around with in Photoshop and here is how it came out!

Print on fabric

Give the print a few minutes to dry and then carefully peel the fabric from the paper.

feather on fabric

Pop it into a frame!

 Unique, beautiful art!

Let me know if you try this DIY and how it works out for you!!

Holy Freebies and Giveaways!!!

This week has been exciting, stressful, and inspiring all at the same time.

After all, it is the week of launches, freebies & giveaways!!

Before I get into the fun stuff,  I'm not sure if you can relate or not with what I am about to share but ... sometimes life just seems to sneak up on you and throw a wrench into your experience.  This week I had 2 major events planned that I was going to devote my attention to.  My art shop launched {check it out here} and I am participating in my first art show with tonight being the opening reception {if you missed the story, read about it here}.

Well..  my focus and attention has been interrupted a few times this week. There is nothing life threatening going on, but I've had to deal with a few personal issues and unexpected change of plans that were out of my control and important enough that they had to be dealt with.  When stuff like this happens, what I can control however, is my attitude about these interruptions and understand that not all that we do is within our control.  We can plan, execute and deliver flawlessly, however ... when a wrench is thrown your way, the best thing to do is to duck, and work around the kink! I'm working around my kinks this week!!!

Having said that, I am really excited to be announcing winners daily on life i design's facebook fan page  and posting them on our Giveaway page.  If you haven't entered yet, it's easy! Follow the directions here

And better late than never  {a kink = I wanted to share this freebie with you yesterday, no biggie right?!}

be great at it... all we can do is, be our best to be great!!  Let the wrenches fly, but know that you put your best effort into everything you do! Whether it's being a great mother, a great friend, a great student, or a great accountant!! Be focused, plan for a brilliant execution and celebrate your successes!

My goal is that this print inspires you to be great {as if you aren't already!!}.

be great
