Its Tuesday afternoon and I felt inspired to share with you a peek into what's happening in the studio at the moment!
My most favourite way to create art is by taking pencil and pen to paper and just draw. Here's an unedited shot of my arsenal of pens and pencils (just the ones I currently am using at my desk). I've vowed to not buy another one until at least 5 of these are used up!!!I'm not a person who wears a lot of colour - I've posted a pic on Instagram of my closet - the range between black, blacker-black and blackest-black is huge! Although, I must say, I've been embracing colour more and taking chances - maybe it has to do with my recent exploration with my art.
Here's a peek at what I've been creating in the studio recently...
I painted 4 of these petite canvases and just love how they turned out! When I stepped back to have a good look at the finished product, I realized that while I was painting these pieces, I felt like I was an observer rather than an active creator. The paint almost came to life on it's own and I was merely translating what was meant to be. Make sense?! Maybe a little too deep for Tuesday afternoon! Anyway, they have been photographed and added to the art shop just a few minutes ago...
aaaand they are currently on sale for a limited time!
Here's a small portion of a larger piece that I've been working on over the last few weeks that had been giving me trouble. It's not until I took my black pen to it, that I felt like it came to life. I think there's about 12 layers of paint on this one and I'm going to sit with it for a few more days and see if I feel like it needs more tweaking.
What my desk looks from my angle... Lastly, I have to share what I recently discovered!
Since focusing on my art career, I've been taking all sorts of classes in-person and on-line. It's the best way to learn a few new techniques, push yourself out of your comfort zone and take chances with your creativity.
Earlier this week I discovered a site called CreativeBug via a hugely talented artist that I love and have been following for years - Lisa Congdon. Members have access to a great variety of creative classes that you can pick and choose from!
So I've signed up for their 2 week free trial and have already completed one of Lisa's Sketchbook Classes and am thrilled about getting back to my sketchbook and allowing myself time to play with my art.
Here's what I created following Lisa's instruction.
I love the layering of colour and shapes and know I'll explore this technique a little more and play around with it!
All this is happening right now in the studio!
I hope you've been inspired a little this afternoon too!
Thanks for reading!
