Surtex 2015 brought me to visit New York City once again! This 3 day trip left me with a filled notebook of notes and to-dos and an iPhone photo album filled with more inspiration than I could have hoped for! For those of you unfamiliar with Surtex, it is an annual show held in NYC for selling and licensing art and design. My biggest goal for my art business this year is to license my work, so naturally it was the perfect time to explore the show and get to know the industry a little bit.
I hope you enjoy my Suretex recap as I share pics of NYC, interesting trend forecasts and a heads-up for what l.i.d monthly subscribers can expect in May's newsletter!!
First up - Some interesting shots of NYC!
I walked the Highline for the first time and explored Chelsea and Chelsea Market! Every time I visit NYC it's always a new experience. Take a look at some of the interesting art that I found along my hike!
This last shot is one that took my breath away! On the ride home, I had a window seat (I'm normally a lover of the isle seat - better for long legs!) I looked out the window of the airplane to enjoy nature's work of art!
We had just come out of complete fog and this beautiful sky-scape appeared! Travel is a delight to the senses in so many ways!
Isn't it beautiful??!
Next, my overall thoughts about Surtex....
I am overwhelmed by the quality of talent, the kindness and warmth offered by the people I got to met in person and the sheer size of the industry. I arrived in NYC without knowing a single soul and left having made such amazing new friends and connections, that I was filled with a tremendous amount of gratitude.
I have a lot of decisions and work ahead of me and am still weeding through my notes and what my next steps are. These next 12 months should be an interesting journey! I could have chosen to post pics of the event, the people, the art - but instead I chose to share this with you... here's a quote I found before I left for my trip and was compelled to hand letter it and share!
It makes me think about living life consciously and if you are often doing what you love - that is the secret to being happy more often then not!
Now to share some juicy bits from my Surtex recap! This is for my fellow designers, or trend enthusiasts, here are some great trend tips I learned about at the Surtex Trend Theatre talks!
Keep in mind, I was making notes from beautiful photography slides, so my point forms are highlights of what stuck with me.
