This modern calligraphy series is my attempt to help keep cursive writing and modern calligraphy writing alive with short videos showing how I write letters each day sharing my calligraphy alphabet. This calligraphy for beginner's series has a very short video which shows you how to write in calligraphy.
Hand lettering is all the rage these days. My goal with these short videos is to inspire you, to show you how I letter and to help share a few tips along the way. In this video, I am using a pentel waterbrush (small tip I believe), a simple entry level watercolor palette and printer paper!!

In this short video I give you the basic differences between modern calligraphy and hand lettering. In each case, we "draw" shapes and strokes to form letters. Modern calligraphy should include two simple elements; thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes. My modern calligraphy philosophy is to always add your own personal style to you modern calligraphy letters.
Here's a short video using real time to demonstrate how to write the lower case alphabet using a dip pen and ink in modern calligraphy style in real time. Modern calligraphy is all about writing letters that have personality, style, bounce and flow. The best way to build muscle memory is to practice often!
In this video I demonstrate using my top tools for calligraphy and lettering! I start off showing a Tombow, dual brush pen (one side is black, the other is grey) next; tombow Fudenesuke Pen, then a large Tombow dual ended brush pen. For dip pen calligraphy, I use speedball ink or mix my own guache usually.
