Inspirational Books I Use in My Personal Art Practice

There’s always something new to learn, whether it’s a new technique or a new process, and that’s why I LOVE using books as a jumping-off point when I’m not sure what to paint. It’s nice to have something to hold in your hand and view in person when trying to paint from photo references.

When looking for a book to use as your new guide, be sure to look for something with many photos where you can take elements from multiple photos to inspire you to create your next piece.

Where to Find Your Own Inspirational Books for Art

I LOVE supporting local small businesses in my area, and I have a couple of go-to's when I’m looking for a new inspirational art book. First, I’ll start at a local bookshop that I know has great deals and a great selection. I also love older antique books, which I’ve been finding at thrift shops or antique stores.

If you’re looking for a faster solution, I also have a collection of some of my favorites that you can buy online on my Amazon shop.

Sketch & Paint Watercolor Botanicals Book

I love to create resources to help you find a similar jumping-off point, and I geared my latest book around sketching. Sketching is working out shapes, forms, and compositions. Once you have a sketch, you can do what you choose to do with it, whether it’s just a practicing exercise or you create a finished & polished piece.

Inside my new book Sketch & Paint, you’ll explore drawing & adding watercolor to it when using this book! You’ll draw, sketch, and paint more from the projects inside. With each exercise you do, you’ll build more and more confidence in yourself and your art, pushing you to create even MORE and try other new things.

Take a peek inside the new books in my collection + my sketchbook!

In my latest video on YouTube, I’m showing you some of the books that I’ve recently picked up from bookshops! I’m also sharing a sneak peek of the inside of some of my sketchbooks. Let me know what you think!
