My Top 5 Calligraphy Projects to Sell

Working from home as a calligrapher is something that I’ve done since 2012. Over the years, I’ve offered a huge variety of services and products to my clients. In this post, I’ve compiled 5 of my favorite calligraphy projects that I recommend you consider selling too!

My top 5 calligraphy projects to sell!

Let’s get to it!

Prints

Create prints from you calligraphy or lettering to help you earn money.

Create prints from you calligraphy or lettering to help you earn money.

My first and top choice of calligraphy project I recommend you start selling are prints of your inspiring, sassy, motivational and fun lettering! People are always looking to update a gallery wall, their dorm room or bedrooms with new, affordable and stylish art prints!

You can hand letter your quote, digitize your calligraphy and create a digital file of the saying that you can print at home or use a local printer to print it for you. I did this when I first started selling my calligraphy prints back in 2012 for years and years, and they were a huge hit! I still sell them to this day!

I recommend you learn how to digitize your lettering using Adobe Illustrator (it’s my fav) as this will open up lots of opportunities for you to make money!

Custom Signs

Hand letter custom signs are another fun way to sell your calligraphy and lettering services.

When I think of custom signs, I think of a variety of surfaces and uses! I’ve lettered custom signs for weddings, small businesses and special occasions. I often use art canvases and oil-based markers to create the signs, however, I’ve also lettered on chalkboards, wood panels and more.

There are so many applications and uses for custom signs that you can earn money year round with this fun and simple calligraphy project to sell! Decide which industry you want to serve, and create some really eye-catching and beautiful signage.

Greeting Cards

Selling greeting cards was another way that I earned money for years using my calligraphy and lettering. I printed, packed and shipped hundreds, if not, thousands of greeting cards yearly.

I offered bulk, custom greeting cards at Christmas and offered them wholesale to local retailers year around. Adding simple, beautiful, greeting cards to your calligraphy business is something that I recommend you look at doing.

Again, knowing how to digitize your lettering is handy, and deciding whether to print them at home or working with a printer is your choice when you consider selling greeting cards.

You can find beautiful packaging and ways to bundle your greeting cards too. Keep in mind that birthday greeting cards are the most popular, next are Christmas followed by weddings.

Mugs, glasses, etc.

Sassy coffee mugs with calligraphy are a huge hit!

I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent at my printing machine creating fun, sassy, and customized mugs for clients! Offering mugs, glasses and anything else you can think of putting your lettering on is a great calligraphy project to sell.

There are also so many choices when it comes to adding the lettering to products. You can use a heat transfer machine, vinyl stickers and even oil based markers! The options are plenty, so I suggest you decide on 2-3 products you want to sell and how you are going to add your lettering to them.

From there, your imagination will take care of the rest! Oh, and offering customization is a great idea as clients love to be able to gift products like these to friends and family. You can have a lot of fun with this calligraphy project to sell.

SVG or digital files

I haven’t done this personally, but I’ve seen lots of calligraphers and letterers offer SVG or digital files of their lettering for sale. I think it’s a great passive income stream for you to add to your calligraphy business!

Knowing how to digitize your lettering is again, a must-have skill. But if you want to take away some pressure from your everyday calligraphy workload and have an income stream that takes care of itself, you can easily add some fun calligraphy or lettered digital files to an Etsy shop for purchase by others who want your beautiful designs.
