How To Run Your Instagram As An Artist
If you’re an artist looking to grow your craft, engage with other artists, and sell your work or knowledge then Instagram is one of the most powerful platforms to use!
I started using Instagram when I first started life i design and it has been a game changer for connecting with collectors, gaining visibility and selling my artwork. But I know that Instagram can be a platform that some struggle to use. To constantly think about what and when to post. Knowing how to speak to your audience, finding ways to follow trends, and learning how to take pictures and videos of your artwork that convey the beauty is a difficult skill to master. Here are some of my steps to help you set up, grow, and monetize your Instagram presence as an artist.
It Starts With Your Profile
Your Instagram profile is your first impression to your audience. It should show who you are, what you do, and why someone should follow you. Keep it simple and clean, and make it easy for someone to know within seconds who you are. I always recommend using a clean picture of your face or logo rather than a random piece of artwork.
Write Scroll Stopping Captions
Your captions matter when it comes to Instagram. I know some people think that their audience won’t read long captions, but Instagram can function as a search engine now, so making sure to include keywords within your caption helps your post get found. I also recommend a call to action, which means giving your audience a next step to follow (ex. “follow for more tips!” or “use the link in bio to sign up!”)
Use Your Instagram Stories Intentionally
Instagram stories allow your audience to stay engaged with you and your content. They allow followers to feel connected with you and give them a glimpse into your everyday life. They are only visible for 24 hours, so it’s an intimate setting that allows you to truly connect with your audience. I use stories to show my workspace, allow my followers to interact with polls and link out to selling my artwork or courses.
Using an Instagram account as an artist doesn’t have to be complicated. These are just some of the tips and strategies I’ve used to grow my community and ultimately grow my business.
