30+ Art Studio Supplies, Sketchbooks, and Art Books for Creatives

Running a small art business isn’t easy, but I always say the tools of the trade make a HUGE difference. When I first started this journey, I had no idea what I was doing or where to start. I bought EVERYTHING that was recommended to me. Books, paint brushes, that super expensive easel that promised to transform my studio! I know it’s overwhelming, and we don’t always know where to start. So I compiled a list of some of the best tools of the trade to help you get started. These are some of the daily supplies that truly help me learn, grow, and run my art business. Let’s dive in!

Art Books for Creatives

I used books when I first started life i design, and they helped me learn more than I thought was possible.

One of my favorite business books is The Graphic Artists Guild Handbook. This is an excellent resource for knowing how to price your work and learning about ethical business guidelines.

If you want to learn about color palettes, Color Collective’s Palette Perfect is great to get you started with your color journey!

Sketchbook Supplies to Level Up Your Sketchbook

Using a sketchbook daily is a great way to practice your skills. This sketchbook is the perfect size to take with you anywhere. Jot down inspiration wherever it strikes you. I also love using charcoal pencils to help sketch when I’m inspired. These are my favorites.

Studio Supplies to Stay Organized

Organizing your studio space is a great way to get you started and keep the clutter out of your creative practice. I use this three-tier organizer for small art items that could end up thrown around my space. I also use a label maker to help me keep ALL of my supplies in order!

I hope this helps keep you organized and informed. Buying tons of supplies at once isn’t always the best strategy, but take what you need, and don’t forget to return whatever is helping you or your business.
